Description: Pineapple is an excellent source of vitamin C, an antioxidant that may reduce your risk of heart disease and certain cancers. Vitamin C helps protect skin from bruising, helps heal cuts and keeps gums healthy. Eating foods with vitamin C helps the body absorb iron. Pineapples also provide potassium and fiber. Potassium helps maintain healthy blood pressure, and fiber helps control cholesterol and keeps you regular.

Selection: Select a pineapple with dark green leaves, and heavy for size. Choose a pineapple that is plump and firm, and avoid soft or dark spots or leaves that appear dry.

Storing: Eat as soon as possible. Cut pineapple can be stored in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days.
