Oranges and grapefruit also provide potassium, fiber and folate. Potassium helps maintain healthy blood pressure and fiber helps control cholesterol and keeps you regular. Folate may reduce your risk of heart disease. Eating foods with folate before pregnancy helps lower the risk of delivering a baby with neural tube defects.

Selection: Oranges: Select oranges that have deep yellow peels, without any soft spots or bruises. Grapefruit: Select grapefruits with thin and firm skin. Avoid selecting those that have soft spots or are bruised.

Storing: Oranges: Store at room temperature for up to 10 days. Grapefruit: Store at room temperature for up to 1 week. Refrigerate for 2-3 weeks.
